POCKET OFFICE - WEEKEND MAKEOVER!
When planning our current house, we incorporated a "pocket office" into the kitchen. I was dreaming of a space to organize the household bills, meal planning, school newsletters, permission slips, ball schedules etc! I wanted a space just big enough for these day to day tasks without being big enough to become a dumping ground for random things. (The dimensions of the office are just over 3' x 5'.)
Originally we were planning on having a desk custom and cabinetry made for the space and put in an old counter height table to hold the computer while we waited for the built ins. After several hiccups of plans being lost, appointments being missed and calls not being returned we decided to buy a new desk and floating shelves instead. At the beginning of July we made a quick trip to IKEA and picked up two "EKBY MOSSBY/ EKBY BJARNUM" shelves.
Over the weekend we decided to tackle the office. We still haven't found the right desk so I had my husband cut 6 inches off the legs of the old counter height table we were using (a little background to that table - I found in on sale at Superstore ten years ago for $50!!). Then we lightly sanded the maple top and painted it dark grey while leaving the legs and drawer white. We traded out the uncomfortable old chair with this super comfy chair from Bouclair....we bought the chair last June with intentions of using it in the office!
While waiting for the paint to dry, we wallpapered the back wall with some beautiful Graham and Brown Wallpaper that I had lying around. Luckily it was a small space and the wallpaper installation went by pretty quickly! We let the wallpaper and paint dry overnight before putting the office back together.
In the morning we started by installing the shelves with some heavy duty anchors (it kills me to drill through brand new walls!) and put the furniture back in place. I was so amazed at the transformation that took place in less that 24 hours! I am in love with my new office, it's finally the inspiring (and organized) space I wanted.
I'm still looking for some stylish new desk accessories and a few new decorations for my shelves, I'll do another update once I finish the space!
