KIDS JACK & JILL BATHROOM
One of my favourite parts of our house is the kid's Jack & Jill bathroom. I have always loved the idea of a shared bathroom off the bedrooms but they are not very common in our city. When designing our floor plan we spent HOURS on the upper floor trying to configure everything! I absolutely love the way it came together, both kids have walk in closets (another uncommon feature where we live) and a shared bathroom with direct access from the bedrooms.
Because of the shared space, we created a sink room and a separate water closet with the tub/shower and toilet. This way they can still use the sink and mirror while the other room is being used. The rooms are separated by a frosted glass door which allows for privacy but still lets the natural light in. My husband wanted to design the space around the Kohler Brockway Sink (and Cannock Faucets). So before the house was finished being drafted we sourced out a local supplier who carried the sink and provided the plumbers and draftsman with the specifications. That is one very heavy sink! (On a side note make sure you have the plumbers source out pretty plumbing. They originally used black plastic piping and we had them change it out!)
After we took possession of the house we added the subway tile in the sink room and around the tub/shower. The standard trim around the tub was a marble strip, but I like the way the subway tile was able to be incorporated. A few months later we added the wallpaper (Graham and Brown Modern Living High Street) I ordered the paper directly from Graham & Brown but it is also now available through Lowe's. The vintage feel of the wallpaper was the perfect compliment for the old school sink and neutral enough for a unisex bathroom.
The step stools are from IKEA, I ordered them unfinished and painted them with a flat paint so they would not be slippery. The paint colour is "Citrus Orange" by Benjamin Moore (the same colour as our front door). I spent months searching for the perfect orange towels and finally found them at Homesense. Ironically they were Tommy Hilfiger just the like shower curtain I found at Homesense a few weeks earlier. We picked up a little cabinet to hold the extra towels, face cloths and toothbrushes also from Homesense. We have found a few other cabinets we like since so this might be getting switched out sooner than later.
Recently I came across these pictures on an end aisle full of random clearance items at Walmart! I wasn't even looking for anything decor related that day, but there they were and they were perfect for the space. Best of all it was only $15.00 for all three pictures.
