8th BIRTHDAY GARLAND

I had big dreams of creating a balloon garland as a big surprise for our daughter's 8th birthday decorations. But somewhere during the rush of getting ready for school and working on staining the pergola and finishing up the dining room project I lost the energy to create it. I turned to Pinterest for inspiration and decided to tackle the pom pom garland!

She loves party planning and decorating so I let her come to the store to pick out the colours. We selected 2 shades of pink, white and gold tissue paper. Then picked up a number 8 balloon from Party City. I was hoping for a gold balloon, but they only had silver available! So we decided to go ahead and mix metals ;)

It took me a couple of hours to make the pom poms but once they were done I strung them with a lace ribbon and hung them on the mantel using sticky tack. Once she came downstairs in the morning she was so excited to see it! I usually keep the decorations up for a week after their birthdays (that's too much work for one day, haha).

As a tradition we always make the birthday cake together, now that she's a little older she wants to do it all by herself. We baked the cake together, I iced the cake and then handed it over to her to finish off by herself! She picked out 4 different types of chocolate bars to garnish the cake and I think it turned out pretty cute :)
