DIY PAPER BAG PLANTER

DIY PAPER BAG PLANTER

I purchased this Orchid several years ago from Homesense. After moving I couldn't find the right place for it in the house so it was put in the basement. Once we completed the living room bookshelves I was looking around the house for decor items I could repurpose while I worked on curating a new collection. I pulled out the Orchid and it wasn't ideal but it was filling an empty space (I would love to get another snake plant, or something similar!).

BEFORE - BLACK POT

I found a picture on pinterest of a paper bag planter and luckily I had a whole stack of white paper bags in my cupboard! Within 5 minutes I transformed my orchid from dark and dramatic to white and bright!

Step one: Find a paper bag - I chose white.

FIND A PAPER BAG

Step two: Straighten the bag out so it stands up.

STRAIGHTEN OUT THE BAG

Step three: Crush the bag like you would crush a can!

CRUSH THE BAG

Step four: Straighten the bag out, while keeping it crumpled then fold over the top edge.

STAND UP THE CRUMPLED BAG

NOTE: After completing this I realized that my pot was bigger than the bag. I made 2 and sliced the back of each bag then put them together to create the right size. I used clear tape to tape the inside of the bags together. Finally I cut a strip from a third bag that I crumpled and folded in half then wrapped it around the top the told the two bags together. In total this entire process took roughly 5 minutes!

THE FINISHED PAPER BAG PLANTER!
